How to Make Doro Wat | Hawa at Home | Food Network

Hawa makes Doro Wat, a traditional Ethiopian chicken stew. This stew is a testament to the benefit of having berbere in your cupboard — It takes a simple braised chicken that you can make any night of the week from basic to really special. Berbere is the spice mix of Ethiopia and Eritrea, and it differs from region to region, family to family, even neighbor to neighbor.

Sorry wish the Chef would of fact checked with some of that info about Eritrea. The food was "her take" on the recipe which she did say in the beginning of the video. For anyone who doesn't know, this is not how Ethiopians and Eritreans cook this dish at all. This dish takes several hours to cook with lots and lots of onions and berbere.
I do enjoy some of the Chefs other videos.

Food Network couldn't of found an Eritrean or Ethiopian to make this dish? She doesn't know how to cook this dish which is the national dish of these countries.

Mekdem Kizzy October 26, 2021 - 9:59 am

6:13 on behalf of My ancestors, I apologize. They clearly didn't know what they were doing. But also that's not how dorowot supposed to look like. and It takes at least 24 hours not 45 min.

DavvitSol October 27, 2021 - 4:57 pm

Judged for the tomato addition.

This vedio is not at all about the Doro wot ha?! It's super political and Hawa, before you say "we" were given away by the Ethiopian king(the only king that truly did alot for his country to the best of his ability with the help of God)
Read about what really happened at that time… In how many directions the country was attacked. This is super disappointing to see you would go to a poorly researched political direction.
This is not a new take on Doro wot it is a character assassination of Ethiopia from people who say they are our friends but always attract us.

Sorry to be the buzz killer, this is light years away to be called "Doro Wat"! When you take a dish that takes at least 4 hours to cook, down to 45 minutes, there so many things that went wrong! I am not trying to be a purist, but it lacks too many basic procedures that you haven't applied from your observations at that old lady's kitchen! Nice try though ?

❤?????????

Abrihet Abrihet March 13, 2022 - 10:47 am

Oh wow, you really don't know what you're talking about lady, Doro is chicken wot is stew, and none of this is what goes into berebere. Also no tomatoes. This isn't doro wot, love that you're trying but no.

Mary Alice March 16, 2022 - 7:13 am

So you cooked chicken in a Somali way but gave it the Ethiopian name and lied to everybody this dish is doro wat. This is very different to how it's actually cooked. The only thing that's the same is the spice. For an African to do this considering foreigners know very little about African food, is just not right. SHAME

Lorenzoooooo ! March 21, 2022 - 4:10 am

Yeah you got your own show ????

Liya March 27, 2022 - 11:22 pm

So much of this was false , I like the respect tho. Next time use someone who is Ethiopian and actually educated on Ethiopian food and history. This is unfair to Ethiopians.

SGCHRIS March 29, 2022 - 2:34 am

The West squandered and abused Africa when they divided Africa. The West needs to pay. Recompense is necessary. Both Asia and Africa suffered in the hands of Europe and US. And we should not allow them to control us anymore.

Aster Mengistu August 13, 2022 - 6:37 pm

I’m sorry but there’s no way u finish cooking doro wot in 45 mins. It takes at least 5-6 hrs I feel like you disrespected our culture ??

Eddie Walker August 23, 2022 - 11:27 pm

Notice difference in berbere pronounciation to begin with…generational lost in translation.

Utopia Africa September 1, 2022 - 11:26 am

That is great sister from Somalia but this is Ethiopian dish not Eritrean

Madame Maai September 7, 2022 - 11:23 am

"close to the nile"???? ummm how about the source of 80% of the water in the nile via the Blue Nile originating in Lake Tana?

LaKeba Fondren November 20, 2022 - 6:05 pm

Thank you Sister for the tutorial. I can now cook with confidence.

yoni o January 3, 2023 - 10:45 pm

now how we typically cook Doro wot, this dish was definitely westernized. Also, some misinformation regarding background information about Eritrea. I wouldn't go as far as cultural misappropriation, but defiantly not authentic. I wouldn't consider this Eritrean/Ethiopian meal. Culture i s so important and I don't feel like it was represented well here. Furthermore, no one eats Doro wot with rice.

Mamush Mesfin January 10, 2023 - 1:12 pm

Lol this isn’t doro wot she butchered this dish

m.taylor February 24, 2023 - 2:36 am

I didn't know it had tomatoes in it.

Vogel Vogeltje April 19, 2023 - 6:28 pm
